Price Comfort Quality Having read a lot about latex as an alternative to memory foam I was very interested in trying it out as had a bad experience with memory foam having bought a cheap one that smelt industrial and was extremely warm to sleep on. I baulked at the price somewhat but had been assured they were worth the money, both by friends and the guys on the phone. It has indeed turned out this way, much more comfortable and without any of the drawbacks of mem foam

Quality Price Comfort Although I was a bit surprised by the price in the first place, I took the plunge as I suffer from allergies and had been having trouble with my old mattress. Having taken the plunge and swallowed the price, Im glad I did, been having much better nights sleep. Latex is THE magic ingredient. Thanks to the Only Mattresses team for valuable technical advice as well.

What is a Latex mattress?Latex foam is a relatively new mattress material introduces as an alternative to visco elastic memory foam. It behaves a lot like Memory Foam, but with some important differences.
There are two main types of Latex Foam Mattress. Natural Latex and Synthetic Latex.
Natural Latex and Synthetic Latex
Natural Latex is made from the milky sap of the Rubber tree. Synthetic Latex is in fact the same chemical compound as Natural Latex but is made in a laboratory. The two types of Latex foams have the same properties and it would be difficult to tell them apart in a blind test. Natural Latex can be marginally softer than Synthetic Latex and therefore may tear more easily. Synthetic latex is usually firmer and more durable than Natural Latex. Many mattress manufacturers combine Natural and Synthetic Latex in their mattresses to create a perfect blend.
How Latex mattresses are made
In most cases, a Latex mattress will be made up of layers of Latex. Latex topped mattresses will consist of just one layer of Latex and a core made from either pocket springs or memory foam. Actual Latex mattresses will have several layers of Latex, with the bottom core layer being the firmest and each subsequent layer getting progressively softer. This results in a firm supportive mattress with softer, more comfortable top layers.
